Sunday - 29th April

Today we headed for an overnight stay in Torquay which is on the way to Land’s End and in a beautiful seaside village although the weather did not show the coastline off to its best given that it is known and the English Riviera.  We headed down to the coast through the New Forest National Park to Christchurch then through Bournemouth, Poole and Wareham where we detoured off onto a smaller road to see Durdle Door which is basically an archway in a rock in the ocean.  When we arrived it was very windy and freezing cold but decided to walk down a path to few this natural wonder as it could not be seen from the carpark.  As you would expect Peter went off the beaten track on a “short cut” and I went down the marked trail.  Just as I got half way down the track the rain came thick and fast and guess what… I didn’t have my umbrella!!  A quick zoomed up photo and a dash back up the hill to the car where I met back up with Peter with his umbrella!!  Back into my heated seat and off we went heading to Bridport and along the Jurassic Coast to Exeter and then down to Torquay.  We were booked into a B&B style accommodation which was very nice and of course we were on the top floor (3rd) and no lift!!  It was about 7.15pm when we arrived so our hosts booked us into a restaurant within walking distance for 8pm.  Of course it was still raining at 8 but we walked the 15 minute walk just to get some exercise as all we have been doing is sitting in the car!!  The meal was very enjoyable and the restaurant was a bit like a Hard Rock Café with lots of memorabilia all around.  Very interesting to say the least and a nice meal and friendly owner.  Needless to say another late night.
