Victoria Falls was described by Dr David Livingstone as “the Smoke that Thunders”, the falls make a constant roar and generate a cloud of spray as the mile wide Upper Zambezi falls 300 feet into the Lower Zambezi. The falls are better viewed in the morning as the sun is in the best place for viewing the falls and for rainbows across the falls.
Our wakeup call on day 3 was at 6.30am as we have breakfast at 7am before going on our last game drive at 8am. We have to be back at the lodge by 10am for our departure at 10.30am for our flight to Joburg.
Our game drive produced pretty much what we had already seen but failed to produce the white Rhinos which was the only animal we hadn’t managed to spot. The ranger of the park eventually located them but it was a 1.5km walk through the bush which we all declined to do. Fortunately we did see the white Rhinos in Port Elizabeth. Our 2 hour flight went to schedule and we were met at Joburg airport to be escorted to our very beautiful 5 star hotel… The Westcliff. This was really a beautiful hotel set on the side of a hill. Luckily we went exploring in the late afternoon and took some photos for you folks back home because when we woke the next morning we were enveloped in a thick fog which is not ideal for photos.
We met in the Polo Bar which was very posh for pre-dinner drinks before going to our lovely private room overlooking the pool terrace. It was a very enjoyable night and a nice way to end our little sojourn.
