Our morning started with breakfast overlooking the Zambezi and also overlooked by mischievous monkeys. They were very cute playing around and one even jumped up on the table and grabbed a hand full of fruit. I am happy to look at them from a distance!!
At 8am we set out for Victoria Falls which was about a 30 minute drive from the Lodge. We arrived not long after the National Park to the Falls opened which was good as there were not that many people around. We were had to lug these big heavy ponchos around to put on when we crossed the bridge as you get saturated. I also hired some plastic shoes for 2 US dollars as I was not that keen to get my joggers wet. The falls were very full with water as this is the peak water time as their wet season has only just finished. This meant that the spray was very thick and reaches up to 2kms up into the sky. The walking trail across the top of the falls to the island and the swimming pool was closed due to the volume of water. The falls were really spectacular. I requested to do a helicopter flight as an extra which our Guides organised. Four of us ended up doing the chopper which was a 15 minute flight over and around the falls from every which way. The flight was the icing on the cake and so glad that we did it. Just amazing. On the way back to our Lodge I requested that we call into the Royal Livingstone Hotel as it is an icon in that area and a really beautiful hotel also on the Zambezi river but with a distant few of the “Smoke that Thunders” which another name for the Falls.
Unfortunately we did not have time to linger with a drink and sap up the sights.
We arrived back at our Lodge in time for lunch then our afternoon was free up to 5pm when we were to meet for a sunset river cruise and game spotting. Peter was going to go to the Museum in Livingstone but decided against it. I think we were all so tired from our early morning departure that we all just wanted to veg out. Peter had a soak in a bubble bath in our chalet and I chose to have an African massage overlooking the river which was a mix of massage with hot stones and special oil. At 5pm we set out on our river cruise where we saw hippos in the river and lots of elephants on the banks. We also saw a crocodile in the water just near where we had our sunset drinks the night before!! The sunset was spectacular and saw was the champagne! Back to the lodge to our open fire with marshmallows to toast while we have our usual pre dinner drinks. Our table for dinner tonight was set up out under the stars which was very pleasant.
I think we retired to bed around 10pm to get packed ready to depart in the morning after another game drive.
Till then…. xo
